The Ruger 10/22 is a great small game hunting rifle. Ruger offers seven styles of this firearm, and each one has multiple models to choose from. There is really something for everyone. That’s why we created this review of the best Ruger 10/22 scope mounts we could find, and we will pick a favorite at the end.
Since there are so many rifles to choose from, there are of scope mounts and great optics you can choose from as well. We chose two single piece construction mounts and two sets of scope rings for the sake of this review, and each one touches on a certain aspect you may be looking to focus on with your Ruger 10/22.
Another thing worth mentioning is that not all models of this firearm have the same Picatinny rail size or placement, which is something to keep in mind when deciding on both a scope and a mount for your rifle.
Materials – The AccuShot 1-inch rings from UTG are made of a durable aluminum in a black, matte finish. The pair of rings attach to the Picatinny mount on your Ruger 10/22 rifle, and the set comes with the hex screws and the driver needed to install them. Each ring has four retention screws per piece – two on either side – which is the standard amount. Inside the rings are a special adhesive, which helps maintain a secure hold on your 1-inch tube scope without scratching or causing damage to the exterior. These are medium profile rings, and they have small slots for seeing through under your scope.
Performance – These Ruger 10/22 scope rings by UTG are pretty standard for what you’ll find in the market. They’re nothing high end, but they’ll get the job done. These rings are on the cheaper side, so their aluminum construction is nothing over the top either. However, UTG makes up for it by including that adhesive inside the rings. No, this won’t leave a nasty, sticky residue on your scope. Anything that would be leftover would be minimal and easy to wipe away if necessary. Many other brands have textured internal parts of their rings, which can leave scratches or dents, so this is a nice touch by UTG. This is what separates them from any other standard scope ring you’d buy.
What we say – This is the best set of scope rings for your Ruger rifle if you’re not so concerned with your firearm’s recoil and you have a lighter, simple scope you wish to install.
- Adhesive inside rings
- Good for lightweight scopes
- Aluminum not high quality
- SCOPE MOUNTS
Materials – Mizugiwa’s quick release mount is a single piece Ruger 10/22 scope base with multiple unique features. It’s another aluminum constructed scope mount that is finished in matte black. The quick detach levers replace the more common screws for mounting, so installing the mount is incredibly fast. There are two rings on this mount, and each one has six points of retention, bringing the total to twelve. There are additional Picatinny / Weaver rails on top of the rings. Included with the scope base are two drivers and a set of reducer inserts, which accommodate 25 mm riflescopes. It offers a medium to high profile, with clear space below the rings.
Performance – What we like most about the single piece scope base from Mizugiwa is its viewing space beneath the rings. While all medium and high profile scopes have this, there’s a wider opening in this option, so you don’t have to take that extra second when you need to look through. Yeah, we’re talking only a second or two, but it does improve the convenience. This is also the only option within this review that has six points of retention on each ring. Some may find that unnecessary, but we wouldn’t pass up the extra security if it’s not going to cost us a lot of money. The additional inserts for the rings is nice too, although it’s probably not likely most buyers would use a scope smaller than 30mm. This option is also made of a cheaper aluminum, but it’s not the end of the world.
What we say – This Ruger 10/22 scope base is the best choice for anyone who wants the additional retention or has a 25mm scope. A single piece base will resist recoil well too.
- Wide open space under high profile rings
- Six retention points per ring
- QD levers
- Cheaper aluminum material
- Fits 20mm Picatinny Weaver rails
- Comes with 25.4mm reducer inserts so you can use this with 30mm and 25 mm (1 inch) body tube...
- Built in Weaver style rails - very handy fitting flashlights and lasers etc.
Materials – CCOP makes another Ruger 10/22 scope mount that’s a single piece construction. It’s made of T6061 aluminum with a matte, black finish. This mount features the more standard style of hex screw attachment. Its two scope rings also have the standard amount of four retention screws per ring. This is a high profile mount, with a small viewing space under the first ring and a wider viewing space below the second ring. They provide a two inch forward extension. This set includes all screws and the driver required for installation. CCOP rigorously tests all its scope mounts for their performance and resistance to recoil on the field.
Performance – This option is a little higher in quality with its construction. We have mixed feelings about the viewing space beneath the scope rings. On one side, we wish there was the same amount in the front and rear of the base. On the other hand, you’ll have a sturdier support system under the base of the scope, which is good since it has the forward extension. Since this is not a quick detach option, we think it will stand up against recoil a little better as well. Other than that, the remaining features are quite standard as far as retention and installation goes. You can expect your scope to stay well in place with this choice.
What we say – The CCOP High Profile Rifle Scope Mount Rings are the best option for those wanting a single piece construction without the quick detach feature. Your base will be sturdier, despite not having the six points of retention like the Mizugiwa option had.
- Single piece construction
- High profile
- Very firm hold on scope
- Viewing space under rings questionable
- Fits a 1-inch rifle scope
- High Profile
- T6061 aluminum alloy
Materials – The Warne Maxima TPA Scope Rings are made of blued steel, and they look a little different than your average pair of scope rings. Beneath each ring is a thick steel beam for resisting recoil. There are two retention screws in each ring, which close the rings at the top instead of at the side, which is more commonly seen. They can be purchased for low, medium, or high profiles. They are installed as any other pair of scope rings would be installed on a Picatinny / Weaver rail. Simply loosen the rings, slide in your scope, and tighten. They can hold up to a 40mm tube scope.
Performance – This is the only option within this review that has Ruger 10/22 scope rings made with steel. Since this option is so different from your basic scope rings, however, we know some will be very interested and some won’t like them. We’re big fans of the steel beam in the mounting system. This is great for the recoil since these are individual rings, and they’re a little more delicate in size than what most will be used to. The screws at the top of the rings may make some raise an eyebrow, so our best suggestion is not to overload the rings with a heavy scope. This is another option where it’s best to stay in the 30mm or maybe 40mm lens range.
What we say – These are the best scope rings for your Ruger 10/22 rifle if you appreciate a slimmer look but are also requiring something above your basic aluminum rings.
- Steel construction
- Thick steel beam underneath
- Unique way of securing scope
- Shouldn’t be overloaded with heavy scope
- Rsr group is a nationwide distributor of firearms and Shooting sports accessories
- Warne Scope Mounts, maxima ring, 1 inch , medium, matte finish
- This product is manufactured in United States
Our Favorite Ruger 10/22 Scope Mount
Our favorite Ruger 10/22 Scope Mount was the CCOP High Profile. We think the single piece construction and above-average level of construction quality is the best combination for this style of firearm. Having a secure hold on your scope and resisting recoil is still important, but you don’t necessarily need the most expensive or over the top scope mount. This is why we don’t think there’s any loss by having the four retention points per ring, as opposed to Mizugiwa’s six. Installation is pretty basic and easy. Even though you won’t have the quick detachment feature, that’s not really necessary for a hunting rifle or even a home defense rifle. The scope mount by CCOP is a well tested piece that is popular and well-liked amongst reviewers, and we’re definitely on that bandwagon.
