The Ruger 10/22 is one of the most popular rifles in the United States. It is so popular, it actually has become one of the most modular firearms on the market. The biggest weakness is the stock 10/22 sights.
They work but are far from great.
As a rimfire, this rifle isn’t a long range firearm, so a red dot works well if you don’t want to go for a full-sized scope. A Ruger 10/22 red dot works best when it compliments the rifle and its strengths. Luckily, there are tons of options to choose from and we have narrowed it down to 4 high-quality red dots, that will work great on your Ruger.
Materials: The Meosight III is made from tough aircraft grade aluminum and utilizes a single lens. This miniature red dot uses a semi-square lens and is quite small, but also quite clear. The red dot is centered in the middle of this lens. The lens itself provides a clear and bright picture through a proprietary ion assisted multi-coating. Called Meobright, this multi-coating eliminates glare, reflections, and delivers 99.8% light transmission.
The sight is also water and shockproof and designed to handle the recoil of weapons far more powerful than the 10/22. The Meosight III is well made and quite durable. Its finish is Meopta’s own proprietary Meoshield coating which is supposed to protect your sight from external damage.
Performance: The Meopta optics isn’t incredibly well known in the United States and that’s a real shame, since they produce some of the best rimfire red dots out there. Meosight III is not limited to strictly rimfire rifles and can be paired with handguns, centerfire rifles, and shotguns. It complements the lightweight nature of the Ruger 10/22 by weighing only a mere 1.29 ounces. 8 intensity levels allow you to replace your Ruger 10/22 sights with an optic that can be used in both bright and dark environments.
The Meosight III is designed to be used with both eyes opened and this implements a red dot over your actual vision. It makes it easier to use than aligning iron sights and is better suited for beginners. It’s also very easy to use for a quick aim and therefore a great optic for hunting small game, especially squirrels and rabbits who tend to keep moving.
What we say: This miniature red dot is super lightweight, easy to use, and is quite durable. The ergonomic controls are a good touch and make the optic easy to use. Multiple mounting options compliment the versatility of the Ruger and as a miniature red dot it has a small learning curve to use effectively, but nothing a brick of 22 LR can’t solve.
- Lightweight and durable
- Intuitive and easy to use
- Lots of adjustment range
- Expensive as …
- Compact Red dot Reflex sight
- 1x magnification
- 1000 hour operating time
Materials: While the Bushnell TRS 25 is a fairly small red dot optic, it isn’t a miniature red dot by any means. The TRS 25 uses a 25mm objective lens and the body is only 2.4 inches long while weighing only 3.7 ounces. It is fully waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof. The lens uses an Amber bright high contrast lens coating which is great at reducing glare. On top of that an amber coating makes everything seem just a little brighter. Handy!
The TRS 25 is deceptively well made when you consider the price and size of the optic. It really is designed to take a lot of abuse and just keep on ticking. If your Ruger 10/22s purpose is to be a beater or working gun, the TRS 25 can keep up. While a red dot sight for a 22 rifle usually doesn’t need to be as tough as this one, who is going to hate on extra durability?
Performance: The Bushnell red dot family has grown from zero to half a dozen optics in just a few years. The TRS 25 is one of the smaller sized red dots in their repertoire, while still being very easy to use. The controls really are all self-explanatory. There are the windage and elevation dials that are capped and placed to the rear and then one large brightness control wheel. This wheel acts as the on and off switch as well.
The reticle is, of course, a simple red dot, and comes with 11 different brightness settings. At the highest three settings, you will notice some washout of the reticle. This means the reticle won’t be a sharp dot, but more of a splash.
What we say: The TRS 25 is an impressive optic, especially when you consider it’s price is under a 100 dollars. This compact rifle scope is an excellent replacement for standard 10/22 sights. The Amber bright lens coating does its job well and gives you a bright and clear sight picture. The optic is quite precise once it’s dialed in. It’s an excellent option for hunting small game, getting rid of pests, or just having a fun day at the range.
- Affordable as
- Easy to mount, easy to use
- Excellent warranty
- Slight washout on higher brightness settings
- Trophy red dot, 1x25mm; 3 MOA, Dot-reticle
- Easy target acquisition; Mounting Length of 1.1"

Materials – The Sightmark Ultra Plus QD is a full sized, square shaped red dot sight and a great fit for your Ruger 10/22. It’s made entirely from aluminum and uses a matte black finish. The main firing window is 33×24 mms and it offers a 105 feet field of view at 100 yards. The window is made from glass and coated with Sightmark’s own AR red coating. One feature that is incredibly handy is the quick detach lever. The Ultra comes with a throw lever that locks and unlocks the optic from a picatinny rail. This makes it one of the best red dot scopes for a Ruger 10 22 takedown rifle.
The QD lever makes it easy to remove the optic when breaking down the Takedown 10/22. All you really need to do is remember, or mark, where the optic sits on the rail which will ensure you have proper zero. The optic isn’t the lightest option and it weighs 9.2 ounces. It’s not overly heavy but bears mentioning. The Sightmark is IPX4 water resistant and is shockproof up to a .50 cal rifle.
Performance – The Sightmark Ultra Plus QD is a very easy optic to use and comes with a multitude of options for the reticle. The Ultra comes with 4 different reticles (We prefer the circle and dot reticle) and each reticle is available in red or green. The Sightmark Ultra Plus QD gives a wide field of view that makes tracking moving targets and transitioning from target to target easier.
There is a digital switch that can be connected to the optic and turned on via pressure. This switch is perfect to attach to the pistol grip of your rifle, so when you grab the rifle the scope is instantly on. The controls are positioned to the rear of the optic, which makes it completely ambidextrous.
What we say – The Sightmark Ultra Shot QD is a great choice for your Ruger 10/22 and takes a more tactical approach than the other optics on this list. The variety of different reticles is a great feature for those who want something more than a simple red dot. The Ultra Shot is also compatible with Sightmarks own 3 power magnifiers. If you want variety or a more tactical option, this is the best red dot sight for your Ruger 10/22.

Materials: The SIG Sauer Romeo 5 is a smaller red dot sight with a 20mm objective lens. The Romeo 5 is one of SIG’s earliest red dots but is quite well made and unique. It’s made from durable aircraft grade aluminum and is water-, shock-, and fogproof. The optic can be submerged in 1 meter of water. The lenses are fully multicoated for a crisp and clear picture. The red dot reticle has 10 different settings, 8 for daylight settings, and 2 are designed for night vision.
SIG includes a high 1.41-inch riser mount, and a standard lowered mount. The mount is designed for any picatinny rail system and locks on rock solid. It’s a very simple, but well made red dot for your Ruger 10/22.
Performance: The standout feature of the Romeo 5 is the MOTAC feature. MOTAC, or motion activated illumination, is designed to help preserve your battery life, while at the same time always have the optic ready for use. The MOTAC automatically powers the red dot on when the red dot detects motion. The 20mm lens is easy to see and is best used with a two eyes opened shooting style. The SIG Romeo 5 uses a small 2 MOA red dot that is precise and crisp throughout the different brightness levels.
What we say: The Sig Romeo 5 is a top performer! If you need to utilize night vision then this is one of the most affordable Ruger 10/22 red dots that can do so. It can turn your rifle into an always ready piece of equipment. If you consider the quality of the sight, the SIG Romeo 5 is actually quite affordable.

Our Top Pick
The Ruger 10/22 is a very capable and versatile rifle and the sight you pick for it should complement these features. With that in mind, the SIG Sauer Romeo 5 is definitely our favorite option. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s combination of NV capability and IPX-7 waterproof rating makes it versatile and durable. The SIG Romeo is priced at under 200 dollars and well suited for hunting, plinking, and pest removal.
