What do you use your AK rifle for? Target practice? Competitions? Self-defense? Is it mostly for show? Whatever your reason is, and whatever variant you own, you probably want a little more to it than just the original sights.
Taking your time to pick the proper AK scope mount can really pay off, as many scope mounts can turn out to be made of really poor materials or require you to constantly zero or adjust your sights and scopes. If you intend to have multiple attachments to your AK rifle, such a scope, light, and laser, you’ll want a railed mount that will provide enough room for all of your favorite gadgets. If you only intend to use a scope, we’d suggest looking into a mount with scope rings as opposed to rails. The important factor, above all, is to keep all of your AK additions compact and lightweight.
Materials – The UTG Pro AK47 Scope Mount is made of a durable material that is anodized in a matter black finish. All of the parts included are made in the United States. This Picatinny rail features nineteen slots, so you may mount your scope wherever you please to provide yourself with the proper eye relief. The scope mount is designed to fit all U.S., Romanian, and Chinese AKs, as well as Saigas with a rear sight blade or fixed buttstock. To attach, the UTG Pro AK47 Scope Mount uses a three point adjustable locking system and flips open for operation. It is a quick detach mount with an integrated rear iron sight. The rear sight can be adjusted for windage.
Performance – The UTG Pro could easily be called the best scope for AK47s. The low profile mount offers minimal weight to your rifle, as well as taking up little space. The nineteen slots provide more than enough room for you scope and one or two additional accessories, such as a light or laser. The quick detach feature makes this mount easy to clean and convenient to remove as necessary. It also happens to fit a wide range of AK models, aside from the AK47. The design of this scope mount is simple and understated, but all of the included features make it an astounding piece to invest in. Despite there not being any description online of what the mount is made of, we did discover that it is made of aluminum. Our one complaint is that the construction could be made to handle a little more recoil.
What we say – The UTG Pro AK47 Scope Mount is the cheapest option in this review, costing just over $80 online. This would be a great scope mount to use during target practice, especially if you’d like the aid of a laser attached with your scope.

Materials – The Midwest Industries AK Scope Mount is made of 6061 aluminum with a hard coat anodized finish. The steel parts on this mount have a melonite finish. The ADM auto lock system equipped with this mount allows for a repeated zeroing and no tool adjustment requirements. It attaches with a simple clamp, which can be detached with a small lever. The AK receiver interface, which is included with this product, attaches to any standard AK rifle model. The rails are high quality, 1913 mil-spec, t-marked rails. The Midwest Industries AK Scope Mount is another model with a low profile to keep your attached scope as close to your rifle as possible.
Performance – The Midwest Industries AK Scope Mount is another affordable product that has a simple design with a decent quality performance. This mount is a little sturdier than the previously reviewed mount, and it also offers a really nice amount of space for any scope and additional accessories. This would make a great scope mount for AK 47 rifles, as well as a variety of other standard AKs, U.S. or otherwise. The rails themselves are very durable for keeping even larger scopes in place. One complaint that can become an issue is that your scope mount may be slightly right of center from the iron sight. Understandably, this can be a turn off for some, but we feel this shouldn’t completely rule this option out.
What we say – The Midwest Industries AK Scope Mount costs a little over $100 online, so this is another budget friendly option for the gunowner that can’t put out hundreds of dollars on a mount. Despite the off-enter rails, you can expect to receive a durable scope mount that is protected with strong aluminum and steel finishes.

Materials – Wait a minute, didn’t we just cover Midwest Industries? This is another scope mount option for your AK47 and beyond. This mount uses scope rings as opposed to slotted rails for the popular one inch tube scopes. This AK47 side mount is also made of high grade aluminum with a hard anodized finish in matte black. This is a great scope for your AK 47, 74, Russian and Chinese style AK rifles. It only adds 9 ounces of additional weight to your firearm. Similar to the previous Midwest Industries scope mount, this one also attaches and quickly detaches with a simple clamping mechanism. It features aerodynamic holes below the scope rings to compensate for winds and breezes.
Performance – We thought it would be a wise idea to throw in a different style of scope mount for anyone who would actually prefer more height to their scope while still keeping all accessories compact and sleek looking. We thought the aerodynamic holes below the scope rings were really ideal for using on an AK 47 or any other rifle, so minimal adjustments should need to be made on your scope. If you prefer one inch tube scopes, you’ll likely also prefer the stability and security of this style of scope mount – the last thing we want is a delicate scope to come flying off our firearm! The Midwest Industries AK47 Side Mount won’t be for everyone, but this is one of the most durable and well performing scope mounts that we’ve reviewed.
What we say – The Midwest Industries AK 47 Side Mount goes for about $140 online. We think this would be a worthy investment for anyone who would prefer a mount with scopes rings instead of rails.
- Very durable and well built
- Aerodynamic holes
- Easy clamp attachment system
- Scope rings not for everyone
Materials – The GG&G Inc. Quick Detach Scope Mount for AK 47 rifles is made of 6061 aluminum with a Type III hard coat anodized finished in a non reflective matte black. This mount will attach to most AK variants, and it has a special built in receiver scope rail interface. The mounting dovetail rail meets mil-spec 1913 requirements, and it leaves room for your scope and an accessory. The quick detach system is great for easily attaching a detaching this scope mount as needed, and the AK-ucam lever for this process has a serrated surface to avoid your thumb from slipping. The whole system is fully adjustable, so it can even be used on AK side rails that have been worn out or simply are not tolerant.
Performance – GG&G Inc. has provided a product that is very well made, durable, and safe to use. The full adjustability of their AK Quick Detach Scope Mount is great for anyone with an AK 47 or other rifle that has maybe had better days. We found the quick detach lever on this mount to be much larger than the others we reviewed, but this is a good thing. The larger lever gives less room for losing your grip, and it’s still compact and close to the body of the mount. The rails on the top of the scope mount are smooth, to make it easy for attaching your scope and lights/lasers.
What we say – The GG&G AK Quick Detach Scope Mount costs between $140 and $150 online, making it the most expensive option within this review. If you can afford this scope mount, then we definitely suggest springing for it.
- Fits nearly all AK variants
- Most durable and tough construction

Our Favorite AK Scope Mount
We have to say that we think the best AK scope mount within this review is the GG&G Inc. AK Quick Detach Scope Mount. It’s the most expensive choice here, and we actually wanted to give this “award” to the Midwest Industries AK Railed Scope Mount, but the right of center alignment made us decide on the GG&G Inc. option. That being said, $150 still isn’t a ridiculous amount of money to spend, so we think many or most gunowners could afford this scope mount if they set the money aside. The full adjustability of this product makes it a win-win for anyone, as it can work with old and new AK rifles.
