Ah, another review that is an ode to the beloved AR 15 rifle. There are tons of realistic and wise reasons to have a flashlight installed on your AR, but you’re going to need a sturdy mount to keep it in place. We found the best AR 15 flashlight mounts for the money, and we’ll let you know which one was our favorite to use.
The type of ring mount you choose can depend greatly on what other accessories you already have on your AR 15 and how much rail space you have. We chose four different types of flashlight mounts for the sake of this review: an offset mount, a low profile mount, a multi-ring mount, and a clamping option that offers something entirely different from the average mount. The great thing about investing in a good mount is that you can obviously use it for more than just a flashlight. Most mounts allow for easy breezy installment, so you can always replace your flashlight with a scope or other optic. This also allows for a quick battery change, if your flashlight dies out at the worst time (which is bound to happen to the best of us). Investing in the correct type of mount ensures that you can put that extra dollar down on a high quality flashlight because you know it will stay protected on your AR 15.
Materials – The Olight M Series Offset Mount is a 1 inch ring that’s made of heavy duty aluminum. It has been treated with a black, anodized finish to outlast years of use and weather conditions. Installation is fast and easy, and this offset mount comes with all the hardware needed. The single adjustment knob is textured for good grip, reducing the chance for fumbling fingers. Inside the ring are also textured strips, which adhere to your flashlight. This ensures shock proof holding power during shooting. The offset mount has see-through space, so it won’t interfere with sights. The Olight M Series also offers a similar flashlight mount that is made of high pressured steel.
Performance – The Olight M Series Offset Mount is probably the most common type of tactical flashlight mount purchased for AR 15 rifles. The aluminum with anodized finish is pretty standard for mount rings, and the material held up just fine during shooting. This is not a quick detach mount, but the retention knob was easy to grasp and manipulate. That seems like an unimportant detail, but it does make a difference in our review. We also like the gripping material inside the ring – it kept our flashlight very well in place. The offset style will keep your flashlight out of view and at the perfect point for illumination.
What we say – The Olight M Series Offset Mount is the best Picatinny flashlight mount for those who want the cheapest option and prefer the offset style. If you only have a top rail on your AR 15, then this will do the trick.
- Very cheap
- Offset stays out of view
- Good grip on flashlight
- Not quick detach
- Heavy duty 1 inch
- Constructed of aluminum with a black anodized finish for long lasting performance
- Designed to be compatible with all Weaver/Picatinny style rails
Materials – The LumaForce 1 Inch Low Profile Flashlight Mount is made of a sturdy aluminum material that is light weight but rugged. It’s finish in black. This is a straight standing flashlight mount, hence the low profile aspect, but it does not allow any see through space for original sights. This is advertised as a quick detach tactical light mount, although it doesn’t feature a thumb lever. Instead, it uses a common retention screw. It has your standard four point locking system to secure your flashlight, and it has a textured piece on the top of the inside of the ring to keep the light in place and resistant to shock.
Performance – The LumaForce 1 Inch Low Profile Flashlight Mount can be ideal in a couple ways. For one, you could install your flashlight in front of an optic without interfering with the picture on the top rail. Even better? You can install this on a side rail, while keeping your flashlight close and tight to your rifle. Our only complaint is that we think the aluminum here is less durable than others, and it may be more easily scratched along the way. Nonetheless, the LumaForce Low Profile Mount offers a different style of attachment and can be very convenient for some.
What we say – The LumaForce 1 Inch Low Profile Flashlight Mount is one of the best AR 15 flashlight mounts for those who want their light on a top rail without interfering with their optic. If offset isn’t your thing, this is your next best option.
- Low profile doesn’t interfere with view
- Can attach to side rails for straight on illumination
- Low cost
- Lower quality aluminum
- Made of solid aluminum alloy to withstand shock and recoil
- Low to Medium (19.50mm) center height.
- Fits Weaver/Picatinny and tightens using a thumb screw
Materials – The Monstrum Tactical 1” Picatinny/Weaver Rail Mount is constructed of lightweight aluminum with a matte, black finish. This flashlight mount for AR 15 rifles connects to your Picatinny mount at three points, and it includes the hardware needed to install. The entire piece is just under 2 inches in length, so more of your flashlight’s tube will be secured into place. This is ideal for firearms with strong recoil and firing power. Also unique to this flashlight mount is the exterior octagon shape; the flat surface and pointed edges will protect your light from damage you could experience in tactical situations.
Performance – The Monstrum Tactical 1” Picatinny/Weaver Rail Mount is a fantastic mount that ensures exactly what it’s supposed to do: keep that flashlight in place on an AR 15. This one is all about going the extra step. With three points of attachment on your rail and a longer length, there’s less chance for your flashlight to knock loose during firing. The exterior shape is also very ingenious. You could fit this mount on any rail (top, side, or bottom), and you can feel confident knowing it will resist against weather conditions, flying debris, or anything that comes in contact with the rings. It would be worth spending the extra few bucks to protect your expensive flashlight.
What we say – The Monstrum Tactical 1” Picatinny/Weaver Rail Mount is the best flashlight mount for AR 15 owners that are highly concerned with protecting their accessories. For some people, single 1-inch rings just won’t cut it.
- Longer body
- Attaches at three points
- Special shape protects flashlight
- More expensive
- Rail mount for mounting flashlights to rail equipped rifles or shotguns
- Mounts to any standard Weaver or Picatinny 1913 rail
- Mount is 1" in diameter, 1.8" in length, 1.6" in height, and 1.6 ounces in weight
Materials – The NEBO iProtec LG Universal Long Gun Mount is a highly unique style of flashlight ring because it’s not really a ring at all. It is constructed from aircraft grade aluminum, which has a black, anodized finish to protect it from rust and general wear and tear. This mount uses a dual clamping system: one side clamps to a barrel, and the other side clamps to your flashlight. Inside the clamps are rubber inserts, which both act as protective padding and a means to secure the grip to both your accessory and your AR 15. This special style of attachment allows you more freedom to use your rail space or to leave the top of your rifle bare for clear eyesight. There is also a Picatinny rail mount, so you can attach an additional accessory to it. Like a true quick detach mounting system, it has a thumb lever for no-tool installation.
Performance – There may be some controversy over the NEBO iProtec LG Universal Long Gun Mount. For one, it’s initially intended for shotguns with longer barrels, and some may find this style of mount unnecessary for an AR 15. However, we like the unique offerings that come with it. This is the only option within this review that is truly a quick detach system. It also is the only one offering padding to protect the flashlight inside the ring (or clamp, in this case). Like the brand says, this is a universal mount, so it is perfectly compatible with an AR 15.
What we say – The NEBO iProtec LG Universal Long Gun Mount is the best option for shooters who are looking for a quick detach mount or have limited rail space.
- Padded clamps
- Extra Picatinny mount for accessory
- Made for long barrels
- Anodized aircraft-grade aluminum; water and impact-resistant
- Accessory rail system for mounting additional accessories (18mm x 24mm)
- Accommodates barrel and scope diameters from 20mm to 32.5mm
Our Favorite AR 15 Flashlight Mount
Our favorite AR 15 flashlight mount was, without a doubt, the Monstrum Tactical Picatinny/Weaver Rail Mount. When using a rifle like the AR 15, shock proof accessories and mounts are crucial to keeping all your gear protected from damage. This style of flashlight mount offers more coverage and more security. The nearly two inches of length will cover more of the flashlight, meaning it’s less likely to take a hit during use. The three points of attachment on your Picatinny rail offers a stronger hold, and it actually increases the possibility of being able to install your flashlight on a side or bottom rail. It may be a little more expensive than the average ring mount, but you’re ultimately still paying very little if you go with the Monstrum Tactical 1” Picatinny/Weaver Rail Mount.
