If you’re looking to enhance the function of your AK 47, you’re probably looking to improve the cruddy stock iron sights. We’ve put together a list of our favorite red dot sights for the AK 47, and we’ll let you know what our top pick is at the end of this review.
The AK 47 is ideal for short and mid range shooting, so you thankfully won’t need to purchase a large optic with a wide magnification range. A standard 1x magnification should do just fine. That also means you’ll be adding very minimal weight to your rifle, and you’ll have eye relief for days. With less requirements for a good AK 47 sight, you can focus on picture clarity, brightness levels, and adjustment features.
Materials – The Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 AK Red Dot Sight Riflescope is made of an aluminum body in an anodized, matte black finish. The fixed 1x sight offers the benefits of a fast, accurate, red dot sight and the durability of Bushnell’s quality optics. The entire product is shock proof, water proof, and fog proof. The 25mm objective lens offers a bright red 3 MOA dot, which allows the shooter to aim with both eyes open. It’s multicoated in AmberBright for a clear and crisp picture. An eleven-position rheostat allows the shooter to match the brightness of the dot to their specific shooting conditions, which is easily controlled by a single knob. A CR-2032 battery is included, which provides up to 3,000 hours of operation. The entire AK red dot sight weighs less than 4 ounces and is only 2.5 inches in length.
Performance – Bushnell is a go-to name, when you’re looking for rifle optics. Their Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope is incredibly compact and ads hardly any weight to your AK47. We love the ability to shoot with both eyes open, and the brightness is fully adjustable. Our favorite cosmetic aspects of this AK 47 red dot sight are the two simple adjustment knobs, which click at ½ inch increments at 100 yards. They’re easy to use and they protrude just enough that you won’t find yourself fumbling with them while keeping your eye on your target. The battery life is fantastic, and we agree with Bushnell that their sight picture is incredibly crisp and clear. While the sight is very basic, and lacks particularly unique features, you can’t go wrong with this one.
What we say – The Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope costs anywhere from $60-$100, depending on where you purchase it from. We know that price range may make you skeptical, but do some shopping around for the lowest cost, and we guarantee you’ll still be investing in a worthy product.

Materials – The Burris Fastfire III AK 47 Red Dot Sight is the most recent in the reliable FastFire line of optics. It is constructed of a combination of aluminum, stainless steel, and bronze (ooh-la-la) in an anodized, matte black finish. The whole thing weighs less than an ounce and is less than 2 inches in length. It has a fixed 1x magnification. This red dot sight includes a tactile pushbutton power switch with three controllable levels of brightness, plus an automatic brightness setting. A CR-1632 Lithium battery is included, which offers up to 10,000 hours of use. Battery access from the top of the optic lets the shooter change the battery without removing the sight from their AK 47. Windage and elevation is adjusted by using a coin to turn a knob, which adjusts in 1” increments at 100 yards.
Performance – There’s a lot of really cool things about the Burris Fastfire III AK 47 Red Dot Sight, and there are some small setbacks. For one, this is one of the smallest and lightest optics we’ve ever seen, and, for some, that’s a big deal. The battery life is amazing, and being able to switch it out with a new one during shooting is a pretty nice feature. On the other hand, despite being for shorter range shooting, we don’t like the 1” adjustments. Like many, we prefer ½” or even ¼” increments. If you don’t foresee that being an issue for you in the future, then you have nothing to worry about here. We also find the adjustment knob a little weird; why not make it entirely tool-less? However, this is another obstacle that’s easy to get around.
What we say – The Burris Fastfire III costs between $210 and $250 online, so this is another one to do a little shopping around on to get the best price. Despite its little quirks, we still think this is one of the best optics for AK47 rifles.
- Very lightweight and small
- 10,000 hours of battery life
- Battery changes from top
- Need a coin to use adjustment dial
- 1” click value at 100 yards

Materials – The Vortex Optics Venom Red Dot Sight is made of durable, machined aluminum housing in a matte, black finish that weighs just barely over 1 ounce. The objective lens is high-quality, fully multi-coated, and it offers a clean, wide field of view. The CR-1632 Lithium battery is included, which can be easily changed out in the top-load system without removing the entire optic from your rifle. The power and dot intensity controls are located on a single side of the sight, which are also operated with a coin or flat tool. The click-value is also at 1” per click. The 3 MOA red dot sight offers 10 levels of brightness, and there’s also an automatic brightness feature.
Performance – The Vortex Optics Venom Sight is very similar to the Burris Fastfire III red dot sight with some slight differences. While both are the same style of optic with similar adjustment dials and battery top load feature, the Fastfire is slightly smaller and has some better quality materials going into it. However, the Vortex Optics Venom Red Dot Sight offers 10 levels of brightness, which is something we find very important in a high performance optic. Ultimately, though, choosing between these two brands will come down to personal preferences because they’re not very different in price point either.
What we say – The Vortex Optics Venom Red Dot Sight can be purchased online for about $230 even, which is right in the middle of the price range for the Burris Fastfire III sight. Between the two, we would choose the Vortex Optics option for its brightness level adjustments and automatic feature.

Materials – The Aimpoint Micro T-1 Tactical Red Dot Sight has a body made of machined 6000 series aluminum housing in a Mil-Spec anodized finish. The whole thing weighs a little under 4 ounces and is only about 2.5” in length. The fully multi-coated objective lens promises to deliver an incredibly clear picture, and its shock proof and water proof function make is usable in any type of weather condition. This AK 47 sight uses Advanced Circuit Efficiency Technology, which makes it possible to use a single 3-volt battery for nearly 50,000 hours of life. Wow! You can pick from a 2 MOA or 4 MOA LED red dot. Simple windage and elevation adjustment dials have a ½ inch click value at 100 yards.
Performance – The Aimpoint Micro T-1 Tactical Red Dot Sight is possibly one of the best AK 47 optics on the market, and it doesn’t come cheap (but we’ll get to that later). The entire internal workings of this optic are completely protected from rain, wind, and dirt, and we find the red dot sight to be one of the clearest pictures we’ve seen. However, the most impressive aspect of this product is obviously the battery life technology. This essentially means you’ll almost never have to change the battery – perhaps once in your lifetime. There is also an option available to use a AA battery, which is cheap an economical. The Aimpoint Micro T-1 Tactical Red Dot Sight gets a big thumbs up from us.
What we say – The Aimpoint Micro T-1 Tactical Red Dot Sight costs around $700 online – sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, depending on where you purchase it from. The price tag is a wallet buster, but you’re paying for incredibly advanced technology in rifle optics, and you can expect to never experience an issue with your sight.

Our Favorite AK47 Red Dot Sight
We can’t lie, our favorite option for the best AK 47 red dot sight goes to the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25. We don’t normally pick the cheapest option because there is frequently an important aspect lacking, or it just doesn’t deliver on its promises. However, in this case, the Bushnell option is a really great product that stands up against more expensive choices. While all of the features are standard, it crosses off everything on our list: lightweight, adjustable brightness levels, clear picture, worth the price. What more could we ask?
